Brow and Forehead Lift

All tissues mature over time, and in many patients, a descent or change in the forehead and eyebrows is a contributing factor in the appearance of drooping eyelids.  In many patients, it is the combination of brow and eyelid droop that leads to a tired or aged appearance.  There are many approaches to lifting brows back into their normal and a more cosmetically appealing position.  The specific technique to lift the brows depends on a number of factors including the amount of brow descent, the position and appearance of the brows, the position of the hairline on the scalp, the size or height of the forehead, and the functional and cosmetic goals of the patient.  Sometimes, an acceptable amount of lift can be achieved through the incision created for an upper eyelid blepharoplasty.  If more lift is needed, incisions can be made just above each brow, or in a wrinkle of the forehead.  To correct a more significant brow droop, incisions are typically placed just in front of or deeper behind the hairline in the scalp.  An endoscopic camera system is frequently used for better visualization and safety when a more significant lift is desired or required.  In this endoscopic brow lift procedure, the muscles and skin of the forehead are relaxed, allowing the brow to be lifted into a more youthful position.  Brow lifting surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, and depending on the surgical technique, is performed using local anesthesia as well as sedation or general anesthesia.
