Lasik
LASIK surgery is the latest breakthrough
in eyecare today. The name "LASIK"
is short for Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomielusis.
The procedure combines 2 procedures: 1) Keratomielusis
2) Excimer laser ablation.
The video at the right shows the
3 key steps involved in LASIK surgery:
- Creation of a lamellar flap of corneal tissue
- Excimer laser shaping of the corneal bed
- Replacement of the corneal flap
The entire procedure takes
about 3 minutes per eye. Return of vision begins
immediately following the surgery, with most patients
being able to drive and return to work the next
day.
