James Paauw, MD

Dr. James PaauwJames Paauw, MD, (pronounced Pow) is an ophthalmic surgeon specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI with distinction in research and completed his general surgery internship at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in Temple, TX. He has since completed an ophthalmology residency at the Scott & White Eye Institute at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. During this time he served as co-editor of Career Physician Briefings in Ophthalmology and in his final year of residency he acted as chief resident for the program.

Dr. Paauw completed a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He has a great deal of research experience and is a prolific writer and presenter on eye care topics. Among his charitable activities, Dr. Paauw has participated in multiple ophthalmology mission trips to Mexico and Kenya. Outside of ophthalmology, he participates in several sports, including basketball, softball, tennis, golf and luge.
