Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are a clouding or discoloring of the natural lens. The clouded lens distorts and blocks the passage of light through the eye causing vision to be dull, blurry and indistinct. Cataracts can affect people of any age but are most common in older adults. Studies have shown that nearly two thirds of adults over the age of 60 have some sign of cataract formation.

Cataract Surgery

Modern cataract surgery has advanced rapidly over the last decade. Surgery is done on an outpatient basis with most patients recovering good vision within a few days after the procedure. Typical cataract surgery will last about 10 to 15 minutes. During the surgery, the cataract will be removed and replaced by an intraocular implant.
